Writer/Director John Fallon talks The Shelter in 2 new interviews!

Writer/Director John Fallon was recently interviewed about THE SHELTER by film blogs CULT PROJECTIONS and AFRAID OF THE DARK; excerpts and links to full interviews below! THE SHELTER will screen at Film4 FRIGHTFEST on August 28th 2015 at 8:40PM, INFO HERE!

Where does the story of The Shelter stem? It comes across as a very personal movie.
The initial creative spark that triggered The Shelter was seeing a homeless man sitting in the snow on my way back from a hockey game. I gave him some money and on my walk back home I started making up a story about that man. Who was he? Where did he come from? How did he get there? Where is he going? The seed for the Shelter was born. Once I sat down to finally tackle the screenplay: my own personal demons, themes that fascinate me (like guilt and forgiveness), and my spirituality seeped in there to result in what the film became. -READ THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW HERE

What lessons did you learn as a film-maker during the writing, filming and post-production of ‘The Shelter’ that you feel you will benefit from when it comes time to direct your next feature?
Ha! I could write a novel in terms of what I learned and am still learning throughout every stage of making this film. Hence, I’ll just say that although I didn’t expect my work on The Shelter to end with Post Production; nothing could have prepared me for the battle that lay ahead. Every step forward has and still demands much effort and most of them also cost money. Let me put it this way; The Shelter has been my full time job since January 2014 and I’m still waiting for my first paycheck. And I won’t even get into the emotional roller coaster ride this endeavor has been for me thus far. I’m definitely stronger and wiser for it. With that said; if I had to do it all over again…I would in a split second. - READ THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW HERE

Two new The Shelter reviews recently surfaced online. One over at Dread Central and one at Supermarcey.com.

Dread Central: Paré, doing most of his acting alone and in relative silence, is a standout. He’s got to carry this whole film on his shoulders, and he does it ably.  It’s Paré’s parade, lock and stock.”

“The Shelter is enjoyable, well made and ably acted. It is definitely worth a look for fans of psychological slow burns.”

Supermarcey.com: THE SHELTER is one of those special indie films that comes along out of the blue and completely floors you. Since watching this film, I haven’t stopped thinking about it and its deeper meanings. You know you have seen something special when it leaves you shaking and wanting more.”

First review of The Shelter now online from AICN!

The first ever review of THE SHELTER is now online courtesy of the fine folks at AINT IT COOL NEW aka AICN! Here is an excerpt!

“Writer/director John Fallon conveys this theme of loss and regret clearly and expertly. Sure, that makes for the exact opposite of the feel good movie of the year, but it does make for a pretty fantastic character study of a man who has crumbled to almost nothing.Pare really gives it his all here, plunging to emotional depths I never thought he was able to do and doing them with a real sense of soul. Pare still has the rugged good looks that made him a star in the Eighties, but it feels like, at least in the character he plays here, he really does understand what it is like to have it all and lose it.”
